London - 27 June 2007: A new trade
association – Film Export UK - has been
created to represent the interests of
companies with international film sales
operations in the UK. Thirty-one
companies have already signed up. The
announcement was made by its Chair,
Ralph Kamp of Odyssey Entertainment,
during the London UK Film Focus (LUFF)
British talent reception at the House Of
Lords last night (Tuesday 26 June 07).
Kamp told the assembled actors,
filmmakers, buyers, sellers and other
industry professionals: “There are more
independent film sales companies in the
UK than anywhere else in the world,
except California, and yet many people
are not aware of what and how much we do
for each and every film. This is
something we need to redress.”
He went on: “We believe that we are at a
crucial moment in our industry’s history
and the UK sales companies have joined
together at this time to ensure the
future success and well-being of the UK
film business. I would like to thank
the international distributors present
for their support over the years.”
Film Export UK’s aim is to:
-
give the sales companies a powerful
voice in the industry and to
champion their interests with
government and public bodies in the
UK and Europe;
-
represent the collective view of the
sector to the rest of the industry
on key issues such as new media in
the digital world;
-
encourage new talent to join the
sector by developing targeted
training schemes - discussions have
already begun with The Film Business
Academy and Skillset;
-
raise awareness of member companies,
their activities and their films at
home and in the international
marketplace; and
-
provide a platform to share best
practice.
The members of Film Export UK are:
